(2013) Gold Quarter Eagle (1914) "Indian Head" - $2.50 GOLD Piece" United States Mint coin - Illustration No.78 - Hand drawn in Graphite on 96lb. Canson Thick Board Sheet Stock - Pencils Used: 4H, 5H, H, B, 3B, 5B, 6B, 8B - Drawing Time: 22 Hours.

The Quarter Eagle was a gold coin issued by the United States with a denomination of two hundred and fifty cents, or two dollars and fifty cents. It was given its name in the Coinage Act of 1792, as a derivation from the US ten-dollar eagle coin. Its purchasing power in 1800 would be equivalent to $33.82 today.

With the eagle and double eagle released into circulation by the end of 1907, the Mint turned its attention to the half eagle and quarter eagle, originally planning to duplicate the double eagle's design. The Mint had difficulty fitting the required inscriptions on the small gold coins. President Roosevelt, in April 1908, convinced Mint Director Frank Leach that it would be a better idea to strike a design similar t...
