Original Coin used was an 1846 Victoria Half Crown - Obverse Inscription VICTORIA DEI GRATIA 1846: meaning by the Grace of God Victoria 1846 Reverse Inscription BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID:DEF: Meaning Queen of Britain and Defender of the Faith.
This is the Second Hobo coin in my coin series and the 21th coin overall and my First Hobo Coin drawing from Great Britain. This was an Original Coin Design & engraving by Master Engraver Shaun Hughes (United Kingdom) who granted permission to Illustrate this piece.
The Hobo nickel is a sculptural art form involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, essentially resulting in miniature bas reliefs. The US nickel coin was favored because of its size, thickness and relative softness. However, the term hobo nickel is generic, as carvings have been made from many different denominations. Due to its low cost and portability, this medium was particularly popular among hobos, hence the name.
